SLOB #6-Diagonal-Back Screen

In a close game late game plays can be a major factor in winning and losing. A well executed play late in a game could be the deciding basket. All coaches should have a play or two for every situation. This includes having a quick hitter, a BLOB and for this play a SLOB ready.

This can be something worked on during practice or this play can be drawn up in the huddle during a timeout. The simplicity of the play has the benefit of having the execution of the play by the players be at a very high level. The play is done so quickly that the defense is beat before they even realize what is happening.

The play starts with the point(1) farthest away from the basket. The center(5) is next slightly offset behind the point(1). The big(4) is around the elbow. And the guard(2) is last around the block. The big(4) and center(5) are the ones setting the screens. And the point(1)and guard(2) are handling the ball.

To start, the big(4) is turning and setting a screen for the guard(2). The entry pass is coming into the guard(2). After the screen, the big(4) needs to clear out to the ballside corner quickly. This clear out by the big(4) opens up the backside of the court for the offense to attack.

On the catch, the center(5) is setting a backscreen for the point(1). The guard(2) is catching, turning, and passing to the point(1) coming off of the backscreen. The big(4) by clearing out gives the point(1) more room to make a move at the basket if needed and score.

Simple and quick. This can be ran at any time but I really like it as an end of game play when absolutely necessary. This is one I like to keep in my back pocket and not show it until I need it to win a game. Some coaches come up with these elaborate plays that are phenomenal. But sometimes the simple and easy are the best plays because the players can execute them better.
