The stack formation for BLOB plays can be used to get any player a shot. They can be hard to guard because of how much different movements and actions a stack BLOB can make. Some plays are simple while others are really complex.

Stack BLOB plays can have all kinds of different variations. Every player on the team can be setup to get a shot out of these plays. I have a 6-play BLOB stack series with this play being one of those 6.

This BLOB play is a quick play used mainly when the clock is a factor. When there are just a few seconds left on the clock there might be only enough time for one pass before a shot needs to go up. A stack formation usually tries to attack the defense close to the basket. By changing where the shot is being made, sometimes the defense is playing too far in towards the basket leaving a 3-point available to be taken.

This is a traditional stack formation setup. The center(5) is in the back. This is usually who the traditional stack play is designed for. This is the misdirection that this BLOB quick 3-point play is using.

The big(4) is in the front and is moving across the lane to the opposite block. The guard(2) is next and running out to the corner.

Normally the point(1) will turn and set a screen for the center(5) to come down to the ball. This BLOB play is switching who is screening for who. Defenses will be preparing to stop the center(5) coming down towards the ball when the point(1) will pop out to the 3-point line using the center(5) as a screener.

The point(1) turns like they are going to set a screen. The center(5) starts to come down the lane line. Instead of coming all the way down to the block, the center(5) stops about mid-post to elbow area. The point(1) then runs out to the 3-point line for a direct in-bounds pass from the forward(3). On the catch, the point(1) takes the shot behind the center(5) setting a screen for any defender coming out towards the point(1).

This is a great play where there may only be 1 to 3 seconds left on the clock. It is a catch and shoot play that does not need a lot of time to get the shot off. It is also a nice play to catch defenses being lazy. This is not going to work a lot of times in a game. This is a one time a game play that will give the offense a good shot in a not so good situation. And if the situation does not come up then it may only be used a few games throughout a season.

It is always a good idea to have a quick BLOB play for a situation with limited time on the clock. This is a great play for those scenarios especially if you have other stack BLOB plays in the playbook. You can catch a defense unaware and get a wide open 3-point shot a lot of times when running this play or a play like it. One pass BLOB plays can be effective when ran in the right circumstances.
