Sometimes BLOB plays or baseline out of bounds plays become too complex. Every play does not need to have multiple screens, cuts and options. Quick plays with a simple concept and movement can surprise the opponent and lead to some easy baskets. This is one of those plays. This BLOB play is two passes with one screen. The hope is the play is over with the offense scoring a basket before the defense even realizes what is happening.
The BLOB starts in a 1-4 low setup. The two guards are in the corners with the two post players on the blocks. The entry pass is over the top of the defense to the big(4) coming up off the block. Once the big(4) catches the pass, the offense is ready for the 2nd pass and shot.
On the pass the center(5) is stepping into the middle to screen for the forward(3) who is the in-bounder. The big(4) is throwing the pass right off the backside of the center(5). The forward(3) catches the pass and either has a layup or a shot from the block. That quick pass from the big(4) back to the forward(3) catches defenses unaware leading to easy shots.
A quick play can be as effective as a long complex play in the right circumstances. This play is not going work all the time but once or twice a game it can work for that easy basket that could be the difference in winning a game.
Any team that is running any BLOB plays using a 1-4 low setup would be wise to have this play in there as well. Especially any play coming ballside as the initial play can have this play as a counter to catch the defense off guard if they are overplaying the initial play. This play is not going to work by itself but within a series of plays using the 1-4 low setup it will get easy baskets with the quickness of the play.
