Nike shifts grass roots basketball approach
Nike will eliminate its All-American Camp, an invitation-only event and replace it with positional skill camps that are designed to improve fundamentals.
Nike also plans to host an eight-team global challenge featuring teams from the United States and abroad, likely to be held in Oregon, and will organize regional tournaments featuring high school teams. Check out the whole story in the Oregonian. |
Adidas and Nike cut ties with summer camps

Adidas will no longer run its summer camp in Suwannee, Ga. and Nike is doing the same and cutting ties with its Indianapolis camp. No word on Reebok. For more details and speculation, check out Andy Katz's story Nike ending camp in Indy

Vaccaro Proposes National Prep Basketball Academy

Sonny Vaccaro, Reebok's director of grass-roots basketball, has proposed to the NBA, the NCAA, USA Basketball and the shoe companies the concept of a national prep basketball academy that would train several dozen ninth thru 12th grade players while they attended local high schools. On September 26 representatives NBA, NCAA, USA Basketball, the AAU, National Federation of State High School Associations, the National Association of Basketball Coaches and athletic apparel companies agreed to report back early next year with recommendations on possible courses of action.
